Friday 8th ~ pick up Aunty Becky from Huntingdon station
Saturday 9th ~ travel to Lake District and go for a
paddle in Ullswater .....
.......
followed by a quick romp up Little Mell Fell as a warm up for the big one tomorrow!
Sunday 10th ~ Striding Edge, Helvellyn and Catseyecam
Scary, huh?
Naa ......... easy peasy! What's all the fuss about?
(And will I get a certificate when I get down?)
at the top of 'the abyss'
The Gough Memorial:
|
It reads:
Beneath this spot were found in 1805 the remains of Charles Gough
killed by a fall from the rocks. His dog was still guarding the skeleton.
Walter Scott describes the event in the poem 'Climbed The Dark Brow of
Mighty Helvellyn'
Wordsworth records it in his lines on Fidelity etc, etc
|
........ so the dog was still guarding the skeleton, was it!
(i.e. when found it was said to be remarkably well fed!)
Meeting new friends on the top.
Not the true summit (as many people erroneously think!)
...... but slightly higher than the top if you stand up here!
Rest stop on Catseyecam summit.
Tarn paddling.
